The Department of Management Studies was started along with the opening of the college in 1995. Since then, the department has rigorously and constantly maintained high academic excellence. Thirty two University ranks have been secured till today, which is a remarkable part. If a list of M. G. University first three rank holders is taken, there are 8 ranks for B.B.A and 24 ranks for MHRM, a programme which was started only in 2003. In the last University examination (2020), Sneha Yohannan secured First rank for B.B.A. and Ajina C. Thomas secured Third Rank for MHRM respectively. The victory march of department goes on without interruption. What follows is the list of University ranks secured by the department.

Placement cell

A placement cell is actively functioning in the department under the guidance of HOD. Notably this cell could enable all students passing out to get placed in reputed companies.

Human Resource Development Programme

The department runs regular programmes for students seeking placements reputed firms as well as for those who wish to continue their studies in India or abroad. Programmes that meet for their special needs are chalked out and experts in the field conduct the programmes, what is aimed at is student’s holistic and comprehensive development in tune with the latest requirements of business and industry.

Tie-up with Corporate World

Under the leadership of the HOD, various programmes like internship, project work, industrial visit etc. are organized in collaboration with companies.

Industrial Visits

As part of the curriculum, students and teachers of B.B.A, and MHRM visit one manufacturing units, a company in the service sector and a start up village every year. The visits are extended to various types of institutions and students are exposed to the latest trends and best practices.

Bulletin Board

A bulletin board is prominently placed in front of the department and news regarding placements, higher education and other vital issues are regularly displayed on this board.

Other Student - Friendly and Need Based Activities

The department under the guidance of the HOD co-ordinate the industry interaction/collaboration activities, as a result of which students are able to get placements, internship, opportunities for project work in companies. The assistance and guidance of the well placed alumni in this regard is worth mentioning. A good number our students who did either B.B.A. or MHRM are working in key posts in reputed firms. They are all deeply attached to the college and they help us in several ways, especially in placement matters. The rapport between students and the teachers in the department is praise worthy.

In alliance with TIME (Kottayam Unit) the department conducts CAT/MAT/KMAT entrance coaching for admission to management institutions.

                                

PROGRAMME

MHRM (Master of Human Resource Management)

In today’s highly competitive business environment, the roles and responsibilities of human resource professionals have become increasingly critical to corporate success. The Master of Human Resource Management (MHRM) programme is specifically customized to equip students with the tools necessary to effectively meet the challenges of an ever changing business climate. The MHRM programme of Mahatma Gandhi University enables the candidates to acquire conceptual, technical and human skills to meet the requirements of industry, business and society.

Objectives

  1. To inculcate specialized knowledge and skills required by managers who are responsible primarily of managing human resources and improving industrial relations
  2. To develop a sound theoretical base in the domain of Human Resource Management.
  3. To develop communication, interpersonal skills and leadership qualities to work in and with teams in organizations.

Duration of the Programme

The 2 year full time MHRM programme of Mahatma Gandhi University is offered under semester system. It spread over four semesters. During the second semester, A student has to spend four weeks in a reputed business organization for internship. During the fourth semester the students are required to do a project work in HR domain. The total duration of this project study is 8 weeks. Project work shall be done in a reputed business organization.

  1. Eligibility

A pass in any Bachelor’s degree examination of Mahatma Gandhi University or an equivalent  degree of any other universities duly recognized by Mahatma Gandhi University with not less than 55% marks in Science & Technology subjects and 50% marks in other subjects in the aggregate for all parts of examination or a Masters Degree examination with 55% marks in aggregate. The reservation rules are applicable as per the government norms.

 

  1. Admission Procedure

2019 admission onwards

The rank list for admission shall be prepared on the basis of Entrance examination, Group discussion and personal interview. The weightage shall be 70% for Entrance examination, 15% for group discussion and 15 % for personal interview. The reservation rules are applicable as per the government norms.

BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration)

The Bachelor of Business Administration Course is a judicious mix of all functional elements of Business Studies, which provide participants with foundational knowledge of different aspects of the administration of a business concern. At the Under Graduate level no other course provides the student a feel and basic understanding on such a variety of disciplines.

The course is designed in such a fashion to provide ample scope for practical exposure to the problems and opportunities of real business. The two project studies, one Minor project and other Major project as well as the mandatory requirements of three industrial visit and resultant report presentation will provide a cutting edge to this under graduate programme over the other similar ones.

Eligibility for BBA

Eligibility for admissions and reservation of seats for various undergraduate programmes shall be according to the rules formed by the University in this regard, from time to time. Candidate shall be required to have passed plus two or equivalent examination.

 

Duration of the programme

The 3 year full time BBA programme of Mahatma Gandhi University is offered under semester system. It spread over six semesters. The programme envisages the following activities.

  1. Minor project (Group) in the third semester.
  2. Management projects (individually) in the sixth semester.
  3. Industrial visit in three semesters namely third, fourth and fifth.
