The Department of Commerce has remained the flagship department of Mar Augusthinose College since its inception in 1995. Over the years, it has evolved into a dynamic academic unit offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs that prepare students for the ever-changing business world.

Currently, the department offers the following programs:
- B.Com – Finance & Taxation
- B.Com – Co-operation
- B.Com – Financial Markets
- M.Com – Finance & Taxation

Alongside these academic programs, students are encouraged to pursue professional certifications and skill-based courses such as ACCA, CMA (US), CIAP (UK), Tally Prime, AI-Integrated MS Excel, and Logistics & Supply Chain Management, among others.

Each year, the department consistently delivers excellent academic results, with students achieving top University ranks. Hundreds of our alumni are now serving in key roles across India and abroad—as managers, accountants, auditors, educators, and financial professionals in various renowned organizations. The department is headed by Mr. José Joseph (M.Com, MBA)—a committed academician known for his visionary leadership and dedication to nurturing young minds.

A Message From HOD

The Department of Commerce began its journey alongside the inception of Mar Augusthinose College in 1995. Over the past three decades, the department has grown steadily, offering a wide range of academic programs that cater to the evolving needs of students. At the undergraduate level, we offer three distinct B.Com programs — Finance & Taxation, Co-operation, and Financial Markets. In 2001, we introduced the postgraduate program, M.Com in Finance & Taxation, further strengthening our academic offerings. In addition to the core curriculum, our department provides opportunities for students to pursue value-added courses such as ACCA, CMA (US), CIAP (UK), Tally Prime, AI-integrated MS Excel, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and more. These programs are designed to equip students with practical skills and global certifications that enhance their employability. Over the years, our students have consistently secured University Ranks and brought pride to the department. We are proud to have a strong Alumnae Association, with graduates working across the globe in various sectors. Many of our students have also secured placements in reputed institutions like South Indian Bank and Federal Bank through campus recruitment drives. We warmly welcome students from all streams who have completed their Plus Two to join the Department of Commerce and fulfill their academic and professional aspirations.
